Hello there! I'm glad you've taken an interest in my journey exploring the dark realms of Quantitative Finance. Let me introduce myself so you have more context about my academic background, starting knowledge, struggles, where I'm headed and why this blog was created.
I'm from a small Latin American country called Costa Rica but I've been living in the UK since the beginning of 2018. I do want to clarify, I'm not trying to conceal my identity it's just not why the blog was created, more on that later.
As for my academic background, I did a BSc in Software Engineering at a private university in an underdeveloped country, and I've been a professional software engineer for 10+ years now. The previous statement implies a few things: - my education wasn't great in general (public universities tend to be better in my country), and it became more obvious after being exposed to education systems in developed countries - even though I did take some maths courses as part of my bachelor's (Calculus I and II, Statistics I, Physics I, II and III, don't ask me why...), I've forgotten pretty much everything - there's zero financial background - I do have a strong background in programming and designing systems.
Glad you asked! The main purpose of this blog is twofold, to force me to organise ideas and knowledge gained, and to be able to "measure" progress. I won't try to teach anything yet, I'll mainly share what I've done since the last post, the struggles and lessons learned and where I'm headed next.
